On April 8, the first?"Belt and Road" meteorological visiting scholars?started their one-year training in China. Seven visiting scholars from the Meteorological Services and scientific research institutions of Ethiopia, Tanzania, Thailand and Seychelles will conduct joint research with the Chinese counterparts and attend training on fields such as climate change, satellite remote sensing, disaster monitoring, meteorology and numerical weather prediction (NWP), urban meteorology, and aviation meteorology.

In 2023, the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) and the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China set up the "Belt and Road" Meteorological Visiting Scholars program, with the support?of World Meteorological?Organization?(WMO)?together with Peking University. The program will work with countries and regions in need to?co-develop an international early warning?supporting platform based on "cloud + end", which will strongly enhance the international application service capability of?FY?meteorological satellites, and help?to upgrade?the?capability?of meteorological disaster prevention and mitigation?along the Belt?and?Road.
During their stay in China, the meteorological visiting scholars will?work?with?researcher?sat?Peking University and CMA?on their?research?plans. They will start withcourses on the atmospheric science, and satellite?remote sensing,?and courses of Chinese culture at Peking University, and carry out study and research in areas of meteorological observation, meteorological service, climate change adaptation and mitigation incenters including?NMC, the National Climate Centre (NCC), NSMC, and the?CMA Center for Earth System Modeling and Prediction.
